Vancouver Downtown
Granville IslandIt is nice to take a day, perhaps 2 -3 times a year and explore Granville Island.  It is best to go during the week, as weekends are very busy and parking is at a premium. Getting to Granville Island via metro (SkyTrain) is very convenient; either walk from Olympic Village Station or Main Street Station (Science World), or you can also board one of the little ferries that dock at many locations along downtown's false creek. The walk from Science World is particularly delightful along the Olympic Village and by many of the marinas that dot the shoreline.  Don't walk in the dark though - there are a few isolated areas.  Granville Island has so much to offer and discover.  The eateries are wonderful and there is a huge variety of arts, crafts and unique items.  The Granville Island Public Market is an amazing discovery for the senses and the tummy.  No matter how many times you frequent Granville Island there is always something new and special to discover.  There has been some criticism that the Island is getting a bit tired and dated, but modern upgrades would result in the loss of a unique experience that is hard to find in Vancouver's suburbs.
