Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden,Hawaii

The Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden (17 acres) is a nonprofit botanical garden and nature preserve located off Route 19 at 27-717 Old Māmalahoa Highway, Pāpa'ikou, Hawaii (island), Hawaii. It is open daily; an admission fee is charged.

The garden is located in a scenic valley opening out to Onomea Bay, and features streams, waterfalls and a boardwalk along the ocean. It was created by Dan J. Lutkenhouse, who purchased the property in 1977 and began to develop it as a botanical garden. It opened to the public in 1984, and was donated by the Lutkenhouses to a nonprofit trust in 1995.

Today the garden contains over 2,000 plant species, representing more than 125 families and 750 genera, with good collections of palms (nearly 200 species), heliconias (more than 80 species), and bromeliads (more than 80 species). Some of the Garden's mango and coconut palm trees are over 100 years old.

The garden combines water and flora: A three-tiered waterfall (Onomea Falls) provides one of several water views which include Boulder Creek and the lava tubes on Onomea Bay. This is the only tropical botanical garden in the US on an ocean.


El Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden, es un Jardin Botanico pegado a los acantilados costeros de la zona Este de la Isla. Es un lugar precioso para visitar pero esta muy oculto y dificil de encontrar. Nosotros pudimos encontrarlo de suerte, al pasar por una ruta indicada en la carretera como Scenic Route, con una carretera muy extrecha y que pasaba casualmente por el Tropical Botanical Garden. En este Jardin Botanico se pueden encontrar todo tipo de planta y arboles de todas partes del mundo y con el clima que se da en esta zona crece cualquier cosa que se plante. Tambien se pueden encontar figuras de madera de los Hawaiianos nativos y un cementerio que se encuentra en el mismo Jardin de una familia que vivio en el hace unos cientos de años y que aun hoy en día no se ha logrado descrifrar quienes eran. También se pueden encontrar unas pequeñas cataratas que atraviesan por la mitad el Jardin, y es que la Isla se encuentra llena de cataratas por la abruticidad del terreno.
