For all of you computer-literate people out there... The Rival Hotel now has a Facebook page! Join us there for updates on package deals and events happening at the hotel, as well as informative tidbits, pictures, videos and more. Soon you will even be able to book a room on our Facebook page. Ain't the future grand? The Rival's Bar & Bistro has had a Facebook page for awhile now. The content there is mostly in Swedish and the page gives information about happenings in the theater and bar as well as menu changes.

Tip #12 - Internet Research Tools

I am a firm believer of doing some research before travelling to a new place. I always think it's good to know a little bit about the history, geography, language, traditions and cuisine of a place before coming there... makes the visit much more enjoyable. It also helps to know what there is to see/do beforehand, so I don't have waste time figuring it out during my visit. Thanks to the internet, doing the research is free and easy. Here are some great websites, besides my world fabulous blog, to help you do some research before arriving in Stockholm... I use many of these websites in my day-to-day work.
- Stockholm Visitors Board's official site. Great overview!
- Destination Stockholm
- Visit Stockholm or, if you are travelling around Sweden: Visit Sweden
- The City of Stockholm's official website
- Trip Advisor read what other travellers think about the hotel, restaurants and attractions. Need advice? Check their forum.
- What's Up Stockholm good site on what is happening in Stockholm. Unfortunately, they use Google Translate for the English version so it can cause a few laughs.
- WikiTravel's Stockholm page
- What's On Stockholm click on the British flag in the left hand corner.
- Sweden.se The "official gateway to Sweden". Lots of quick facts.
- Arlanda International Airport's webpage.
I always check the weather of the place I'm heading to a few days before departing (helps with the packing!). Weather forecasting is not an exact science... so it is good to check several forecasts. Somewhere inbetween you'll get the correct forecast!
- My favorite weather site. Thanks Norway!
- Official Swedish weather site.
There are free maps to get at the tourist information center and the hotel, but sometimes it is good to take a peek at a map before arriving to get your bearings.
- Google Maps Good for zooming in and out.
- Map of Stockholm in pdf format.
- Map of Sweden in pdf format.
- Stockholm subway system in pdf format.
A few sites in Swedish (for those that speak the language):
- Dagens Nyheter One of Sweden's leading newspapers. Their supplement (På Stan) on happenings in the city.
- Allt om Stockholm The newspaper Aftonbladet's version...
Happy surfing!

Stockholm Travel Expert at Startle
Please excuse me as I pat myself on the back! I have recently been chosen to be Forbes Travel Guide's "Stockholm Expert" on their website Startle. I'm very proud and a bit "startled" that Forbes, such a prestigious company, considered me for this. So besides giving tips, recommendations and advice on Stockholm here on this blog and helping Rival Hotel guests in person, I will be also answering set questions on the Stockholm page at Startle. Questions like "What are the best fine-dining restaurants in Stockholm?" and "What are the five best things to do with kids in Stockholm?".
Startle is a great website for travelers... here you can find answers to popular questions at different destinations from both local experts like myself and from other Forbes Travel Guide Correspondents. Get great expert advice on restaurants, spas and attractions at destinations around the world. So bookmark the webpage and use it to help plan your next trip!

Just a friendly reminder to follow us (the Rival Hotel) on Facebook... a great way to see what is happening at the hotel as well as in our bistro, bars, café and theatre. You can also find discounts and recommendations from our staff! Thanks to modern technology, you can even make your room reservation. Click here to come to our Facebook page.
Another great Facebook page to follow before an impending visit to Stockholm is Visit Stockholm's page. Click here to come to their page. Lots of great tips for tourists!

Tip #18- A Repeat!
I'm gearing up for a couple of weeks vacation, but before I take my leave I thought I would repost one of my better tips (in my humble opinion) from 2013. It's not that I am lazy! Just that I think this tip bears repeating... and I have updated the information as well!
There are free maps to get at the tourist information center and the hotel, but sometimes it is good to take a peek at a map before arriving to get your bearings.
